  • HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD I TAKE MY DOG FOR GROOMING?

It depends on the breed of your dog, how you want your dog to look / smell and where you live. A clean animal is a healthier animal. Too much bathing can dry the skin and strip natural oils. We recommend that short-coated dogs with no existing conditions can go 4 to 6 weeks between baths. Unless obviously they have rolled around in the mud or gotten extremely dirty. We recommend that for long coated dogs, professional grooming occur every 3 to 5 weeks in order to avoid mats, which may hide skin conditions.

  • MY DOG IS SHAKING HIS HEAD AFTER HE WAS GROOMED. WHY IS THAT?

As part of the dog grooming process, here in Pet Place, we clean the ears and pluck hair from the ear opening. This allows air to flow freely into the ear canal and ensure that it stays dry. After this cleaning, your dog may have a tickling sensation and shaking his head is the dog’s way of responding to the cleaned ear.

  • SHOULD I TAKE MY CAT IN FOR GROOMING?

Even though cats do a great job at grooming themselves by licking and stroking there are many reasons taking your cat into a professional groomer. Long haired cats get mats which require professional brushing. In these cases brushing alone is not enough and the cat has to be tied for comfort. Some cats get fleas therefore a professional cleaning is required. Moreover, since long haired cats are prone to hair build from self-grooming – a professional brushing can remove these hair balls.

  • CANT PET PLACE REMOVE FLEAS / TICKS FROM MY PET?

Ticks are removed with tweezers. If fleas are present, the pet is examined with a flea comb. We use an organic and chemical free flea/tick shampoo which is designed to remove any fleas or ticks.

We recommend that all our clients who bring their pets in with fleas or ticks then vacuum their home, bedding, car etc. in order to remove any eggs waiting to reclaim your pet.

  • MY PETS HAIR IS MATTED AND TANGLED AND IT SEEMS TO HURT HIM. WHAT CAN I DO?

Mats and tangles are more common in longer hair breeds with fine hair, but they do occur in all dogs sometimes. Regular brushing is needed to prevent mats – however, once you notice a mat or tangle, a bath will only make the tangle or mat worse. Please do not bathe your pet in this situation.

At Palace Pet grooming, we have a professionally trained staff to save your Pets Coat from this stress and trauma.

  • I JUST BOUGHT A PUPPY. WHEN SHOULD I GET HIM GROOMED?

As professional groomers in Miami, we live up to the Professional Instiutute of Dog Groomer Standards which dicatate that a puppy should not be groomed prior to completion of initial vaccinations – which is usually about 16 weeks old.

There are a few cats that naturally have great hair – and much of it has to do with grooming. Even though cats take care of themselves well by licking fur and keeping tidy they still need some help from their human pals. Long Hair or Short Hair Cat.

When you see a long hair persian cat with a great flock of hair, you can be sure that it took hours of professional grooming to achieve that look.

The more hair your cat has, the more would be required to take care and maintain it. Thick tangles can be painful and tear a cat's skin if the mats get bad enough.

Short haired cats require grooming also. Their shorter outer coat does require maintenance though not as much as with a long, silky coat. A shorthair cat is constantly grooming can do a lot to make up for an owner who may not spend that much time grooming it! But professional grooming is a requirement for both longhair and shorthair cats – both for aestetic and health reasons.

  • WHY USE A PROFESSIONAL CAT GROOMER?

There are three main areas where Palace Pet Grooming and boutique can help your cat have a healthier life: claw clipping, brushing and bathing.

Since longhair cats require regular grooming the advantages of a professional groomer are training, skill, and experience. A great groomer work your cat's hair coat to look marvelous quickly and humanely, with a minimum amount of trauma.

Bad mats and tangles can be treated at home – however if you have done this in the past, you run the risk of injuring your cat or causing a traumatic event. Grooming problems are best left to the professionals.

At Palace Pet grooming and boutique, we only use metal combs which are sturdy stainless-steel with wide-set, round teeth. These brushes have bristles that look like many bent nails (similar to a cats toungue) for the purpose in grooming. All of our cats enjoy the sensation of the brush and the metal comb – unless there is a tangle or mat!.

We also have the latest cat grooming flea combs avaiable, which come in handy if your cat is used to being outdoors. This is particularly important in Miami since we have a year-round flea climate. Our professional flea combs are similar to metal combs but with fine teeth which are used for regular grooming.

  • ADVICE ON DOG GROOMING

A bathing routine is a required part of maintaining a healthy dog here in Miami, FL. While making sure dogs gets teeth brushing and bathing on a regular basis is important, there are also other necessary requirements in keeping your dog groomed. Grooming is directly related to health.

A clean dog with a clean, shiny coat that smells fresh is usually also free from disease and medical problems. Every part of your dog's body should be cleaned to maintain his/her good health. Since we are located in Miami, our dogs spend most of the time outside therefore it is suggested that they need a bath every 2 weeks. While some dogs love the water, others hate it. Depending on your dog, bath time is either happy or messy time. For our dogs that do not enjoy baths, we try to help him through the process by talking calmly or singing. The sound of our dog groomers voices usually help to soothe them. The singing does work!

Nail trimming is also important for dogs. Nails that are too long put stress on paws by forcing weight onto the back of the pad. Long nails can also scratch skin and furniture. At Pet Place Miami, we use a nail trimmer specifically designed for dogs.

We find that dogs with a lot of hair, such as poodles, accumulate hair in the ear canal that needs to be removed. Once the hair is removed, we use a use a cotton ball dipped in alcohol to remove any remaining dirt or wax. We recommend that all dogs whether they have short or long hair have their ears cleaned regularly by a professional dog groomer who will use the cotton ball alcohol solution.

  • ADVICE ON CAT GROOMING

Here are a few tips you can use at home to maintain your cats new fresh coat of hair:

Since everyone knows most cats hate water - a bath may make them upset. Trying to give a cat a bath at the wrong time can be a traumatic experience.

We recommend grooming a cat while it is still sleepy. While your cat is sleepy, it'll be more agreeable to grooming than if it's alert and playful.

Have fun: Cats love being carressed and enjoy the feeling of grooming. It's normal social behavior and when it's time for grooming, approach your cat in a calm assertive way using grooming strokes with some regular love and caress.

Restraint is OK! It's okay to hold down your cat – gently of course! Make sure your cat doesn’t not start to panic so make sure to restrain yourself also. A panic may occur if you force your cat to sit still in an awkward position for too much time. Do not get too rough or hard with your strokes.

Good looking and healthy dogs all require a professional dog groomer. Dog grooming can avoid unhealthy matted coats which can hide all kinds of skin conditions and may keep a problem from being noticed. A dull or balding coat may be a sign of specific medical conditions - regular coat inspections via a professional dog groomer may allow you to take notice if there is a change in the dog's coat.

We treat all 5 dog hair types at Pet Place Miami: Smooth Coat, Medium Coat, Long Coat, Wire Hair/Broken Coat, and Wavy Coat.
